Can you combine any timber buildings to achieve a courtyard?

Yes, there is no limit to the size or style of combinations.

Do I need planning permission for a single storey building which is less than 4m?

Usually not, unless you live in AONB area, listed building or in a conservation area. By offsetting and lowering the ridge height to below 4m, these buildings do not require planning permission.

How long might it take for a single storey building to be ready?

These buildings can be readily and speedily supplied with both erection and roofing by us or as a self build kit. All the garages illustrated took us less than a week to erect and roof from start to finish.

Do I need planning permission for a single storey building which is more than 4m high?

Yes, this type of building does require planning permission. We can handle the planning for you free of charge. The planning fee of £150 is payable by you.

Can any timber framed building be adapted as a stable?

Yes. A standard 3 bay (30 x 18ft) timber framed garage can have a 10 x 18ft tack room with door and window and two 10 x 14ft fully 'kitted out' stables and a recessed walkway.
The timber stables are lined with stock board, have a stable door with chew strips etc. and Perspex windows.
Timber stables can be larger than standard and a loft or first floor can be used as accommodation, storage or a relaxation area for staff.

What is the difference between the garden barn and the garden office?

The garden barn is any larger outbuilding that you want for year-round use - for example additional accommodation, a summer room, a studio, a gym, a games room, a party room, billiard room or a drummer's den! These buildings are upgraded to meet Building Regulations for heating a habitable room.

The garden office, offered in 4 standard sizes, is the perfect solution for a home office, home studio, and guest annex or music or play room. It comes complete with wiring, insulation and internal finishes and does not need Building Regulation approval.

Do I need planning permission for a garden office?

Planning permission for a garden office is not normally required. When it is required due to your house being listed or in a conservation area, Courtyard Designs will process the application on your behalf.

What kind of pavilions does Courtyard Designs offer?

The timber frame Pavilions are specially designed to meet the requirements of discerning public authorities, sports and country clubs, schools, colleges and private homes. The three standard sizes, often extended and adapted for individual requirements, are traditionally designed with steps to a full length veranda, glazed windows and French doors and include a suspended floor. A recent addition to this range is a larger pavilion (21x10m) that meets the rigorous requirements of the ECB and facilitates getting a grant.

Does the building of a pool house need planning permission?

Usually not. As always, if the need arises, Courtyard Designs can handle the permission for the customer.

How long is the guarantee for?

There is a 10 year guarantee on all the buildings.

Can a Courtyard Designs building be made habitable?

Yes. To assist with the onerous requirements needed to meet Building Regulations, we offer our "Garden Barn Upgrade" package.

Where can I see a building?

Not only do we run the business from an elegant and warm 'Pencombe', there are many clients around the country who are more than happy to allow you to view their building.
